I guess your problem at the moment is that you have no papers or other information on the system? When I had my systems installed, I got a serial number with the receipt, so in case I loose a remote control or one of these black sticks they are able to get me a new one.

At the end of the day this is just a version of an alarm system, so any reputable shop that knows how to install a car alarm should be able to help you uninstalling it. They should just be able to follow the cables and see how everything is hooked up.

Best regards,

Fedde

Dear Jim,

When I bought my 850 last year, it was a requirement from my ensurance company that I would install such a device. It's called an immobilizer and they come in different brands. I have the same setup in my 850 with a black stick that I have to push against a sensor. Was a pain in the ass in the beginning, but after a while I started to realize that the system really makes the car MUCH harder to steal. I got used to it after some months...

Some months ago I bought myself a 98´ 535 (E39) and the same request came to me again from my ensurance company, but on this car I installed a version of the immobilizer which has a remote control unit. Once I turn off the alarm to get into the car I have four minuters before the immobilizer activates itself again. So with this version you know it is there, but you don't have to use the stick as in the other version.

Anyhow...I think it's a good thing to have in the car...a pain in the ass in the beginning, but at least I got used to it.

Best regards,

Fedde

Has anyone seen or does anyone have a system such as this in their E31? The reason I ask is that I hate it and I want to either get rid of it or... as you can see by the Pics... get a couple more "starter sticks?" or whatever the heck they are. I only have one of those so if I lose it, I'm doomed. Thus far, no alarm installation company that I've spoken to has seen anything like this.
The procedure is that before I try to turn the key in the ignition... I have to plunge that little black "stick" onto the silver button or sensor just below the drivers side heated seat switch. (As seen in the photos) Then and only then will my car start. The last pic is a rear end pic of my Euro 850. (you may have seen it on ebay in December)
