For whatever it's worth, if it were me I'd take an extra day to fix the car. Wouldn't even think twice about it. If you HAVE to be back by a time certain just drive a little faster/longer when you do leave. There's nothing that will drag your average speed down on long trips more than frequent stops. It seems to me that on a cross-country trip of 3000+ miles you're better off timewise to take an extra day to get the thing fixed so you can drive long distances without stopping (and believe me, in that car you're going to want to do so) than you are if you don't get it fixed and have to stop every couple of hours to add fluid. I'm no mechanic, so I don't know whether driving more than 3000 miles in a few days with the leak you describe will hurt the car, or you, but I can't imagine that at a minimum the leak won't get worse as you go.
IMHO, get the thing fixed before you leave, for peace of mind if nothing else.
