Jim,

Air bags are called supplemental because they are additional protection above and beyond seat belts, not protection instead of seat belts.
Personally I feel better knowing they are there for me AND my passenger.

It's also interesting that Volvo recommends replacing the airbags as a preventive maintenance item after so many years.

What is BMW's recommendation?
