Thanks for the info.
The cap was replaced under recall in 1999 with a lower pressure cap.
The thermostat was previously replaced in 1997 under warranty, I don't know if the failure was the same (it's nice to have the service records from the original owner).
I beleive the cap recall was widespread over several series and was due to an exploding heater core lawsuit (in the US of course).
Maybe the cap should be replaced as a preventive measure?
If so, how often?
