You don't have a throttle cable - it's throttle by wire. Offhand, I'd suspect either 1) old sensitive firmware in your EML computer flash ROM, 2)the pedal position sensor (PWG, in BMW lingo), or 3) possibly a problem in the EML/DK throttle setup. If you're currently using a dealer, they can perform a dump of the stored codes in the EML system and determine (hopefully) the failure point. There is a TSB updating the older throttle ROM with an improved, and desensitized version. You might need that.

Electronic throttle problems are probably the most difficult and frustrating failures to diagnose and correct. Heck, even temperature and crank position sensors factor into the equation.

Mark,
Thanks. As you can probably tell, I haven't had this car for very long and don't know it very well. I don't even have a shop manual to reference yet. I haven't had it in to the dealer or any other shop for repairs yet. Everything has been fine besides this one problem, that I only recently noticed. Thanks again for the info, at least I have a starting point of things to investigate now.

Neal
