850i's and Ci's did not come equipped with limited slip differentials. BMW appears to have traded the locking rears found on previous Series with the ASC and/or T stability control/traction systems. Unless a special order from the factory (very rare), the only 8-Series to come equipped with LS units is the CSi, which has a fairly modest 25% (i.e., 40% was considered "sport" in previous series)locking rate.

Search the archives here to upgrade the 850i autobox's differential ratio (sources, compatibility, calculations, results, etc.). You're stock ratio is 3.64 and the e34 M5's 3.91 diff with fit. You're on the right track.

I want to buy a 91-92 850i auto. Can someone tell me if lsd diff is standard or an option on these models? Also, are there low ratios available (3.9 or lower)? Who sells them ? Do gears fit from M5 or other models ? Does anyone make a fiberglass hood ?
