You are pursuing a very fine automobile, perhaps the best combination of luxury/sport/build quality and style ever made... the year in which you decide will depend upon what is available, what your budget is and what specific features eg. 850i vs 850CI ( early years '91 - '93, mid years '94 - '95, and last years made '96 - '97 )are available in the car you desire to have. You will undoubtedly be bound by what rare 850's are out there for sale, so thats your best place to start when you've slightly narrowed down what it is you are looking for... take a look thru members Canada/US for some examples via pictures and it will give you an idea of what most of us are passionate about.
Good luck...

I am in the market for a BMW 850, nothing else will do! After searching the Internet for reviews and advice, I have found little information (except this forum) that is useful to me. I understand the 850 cars to be difficult and expensive to maintain. Is this true? If so, roughly what should I plan on spending each year in up-keep? More importantly, what should I look for (year, model?) when I am shopping the few available 850's.
Any instruction, direction, or advice would be much appreciated.
