I have been looking into this for a bit. It seems that our projector lights lend themselves well to a Philips DS2 conversion (to 9006) system by Phoenix Microlite. The system uses the very same Philips ballasts that BMW uses, even the same HID bulbs, but they modify them to fit the 9006 socket. With the projector lamps, they add no reflector since it's built into the lense design. I've spoken with the Phoenix Microlite designer, and he knows of at least one 8er which has this modification. The owner located the ballasts outside of the headlamp units (necessitating their removal for the installation) but he wasn't sure if there was space enough within the units for the ballasts. The kit retails for about $600, but with a group buy of at least 10, we could probably get it down into the $530 neighborhood.
