It was a beautiful day to drive up to Santa Barbara for BimmerFest 2k1!
I was surprised to see only 3 of us E31s there. We had the entire model range, however. Drew with his white 850Csi, TVJohn with his silver 850Ci, and me with my black 840Ci. Maybe it was all in my head, but I still felt like a black sheep at a family get-together with my 8 in the sea of 3's and 5's.
Anyway, there were a LOT of M3s there and all of the attending cars were really really sweet. I got to meet a few people on this board and you're all really cool.
It was really a thrill to see Fly2Low's Racing Dynamics 540 there in the metal, with its really impressive motor on display. I took quite a few pictures, and dream of the day I get that R50 engine mod in my car.
The Dent Master guy was a real pro! He removed all the dings from my passenger door, and now that side is as good as new. Very impressive work in less than an hour with nothing more than a few rods... a real dent master, indeed.
I just HAD to take my baby to a car wash before moving it onto the premises because all the cars were so impeccable, but I went and missed the road rally by a few minutes. DOH!
I wish I could have seen Loren's NOS beast. I did see another E31 on the way back to LA on the 101 with a Zeemax/SMS-style nose. It was dark grey, and it went on the 405 and got off on Sepulveda. I tried to wave hello, but the guy inside probably thought I was nuts or something and didn't look. If you're here, Mr. 850i with the Zeemax chin, nice front spoiler. A double hello if you're the one with the nitrous.
Anyway, it was very interesting, and a pleasure to meet many of you on this board in person.
