Here's my note to the editors:

In announcing BMW’s plans for a new 6-series model, your writer asserts a lack of enthusiasm for the 8-series of the ‘90s. To the contrary, the 8-series is becoming highly sought after and for good reasons. First, they are truly beautiful cars with classic lines – not only did the design remain virtually unchanged for a ten-year production run as BMWs flagship offering, but I’m often asked if my 1991 850i is new! Second, they are uncommon – consider that in Silicon Valley you can find a new or recent M3 on every other block! Third, the big 12-cylinder takes off very nicely, especially with an engine performance chip, and has immense power and superb handling at freeway speeds and above. Lastly, the car is an engineering marvel, employing features found on few new luxury cars. The 8-series was (is!) the ultimate autobahn cruiser and is said to be the last car BMW built without determining the price before design. Did I mention the chick-magnet thing?

The June edition of Car & Driver has some words that should inspire some letters from our Board members!

From page 26: BMW Announces Two New Odd Cars

"BMW confirmed at the Geneva auto show that within the next three years it will expand its model lineup with two new models: the 1-series subcompact and the 6-series sport-luxury coupe and convertible. . . . (some 1-series stuff) . . . the U.S. market -- and the world -- will get an update in a few years of the sporty, pricey and elegant 6-series. BMW intends to arouse long-dormant enthusiasm for the beloved 6-series coupe of 1976-89. The company -- along with most enthusiasts -- has conveniently forgotten the 8-series, a large and largely uninspiring coupe of the 90s. . . ."

Doesn't that make you mad??? Let them know your point of view!!!
