I had a jet black 94 840. Now looking again. What is the difference between diamond black and cosmos black. The 94 BMW brochure lists jet and diamond, but no cosmos. Was cosmos a newer color. I saw an ad for a 94 cosmos CSi, but I don"t see how that can be, based upon my 94 color option brochure.

Terry, Jet Black is/was a BMW standard color (#668) for the 850. Cosmos Black (#303) is/was a metallic black (charcoal-grey) for the 850. These colors were the only available black's in 1994/1995. Prior to Cosmos Black, Diamond Schwartz (metallic)was the metallic black available. After Cosmos was introduced, Diamond Schwartz was only available--through BMW Individual, however, few cars had this color after '93. Schwartz I was, and now, Schwartz II-is the the standard/non-metallic black....


THanks for the info. I did test drive a diamond black (#181) in 94 before buying a new jet black 840. Your indicating that it is possible to have a cosmos black in 94 even though its not listed in the model brochure.? My 97 740 was called schwartz black, as you mentioned.
