I couldn't agree with you more. I've recently purchased a Silver 97 840ciA with 32K miles after turning in my 99 740iL. Your reference to the ubiquitous 3 series in Silicon Valley is exactly why I gave up my 7 series. In Orange County CA (Laguna Beach) you can virtually see yourself coming & going every block if you happen to drive a 3/5/7/X or Z series. I've always been intrigued with the 8, and last month, I finally did it!!! Couldn't be happier. The 7 was a joy to drive, but the 8 connects with me personally and is oh so much nicer. I've had some great cars (63 split window corvette, 92 500SL), but none have ever garnered the attention of this beauty...and I've only had her a month! I've also been asked whether she was new, or better yet, drivers of other sport coupes (Porche,BMW,MBZ,Jags) gawking uncontrollably for yet another quick glance. This design is a classic...Make no mistake about it!!! We've found the 'Ultimate Driving Machine'.
