Terry, any problems with the v12 seem to be relativly minor and not worthy of worrying about. I have one with 130,000 miles and aside from the common intake gasket leak its amazingly healthy. In a way, I wish the engine would wear out in order for me to have an excuse to put in a modified one but it seems to be bulletproof.
I used to work on Jags as a mechanic and know about mechanics tendancys to be scared about 12 cylinders. In reality, most cars have the same common parts that wear out like water pumps, alternaters etc. The BMW 8 is an overall well built car and requires the usual maintanance.
If you worry about 8 series maintanance, consider these guys! (attatched link)
