Hi!

It's been quite a Black Saturday for me this week-end. While having to take evasive action I lost control in a right turn with dirt on the other lane of the road.
I was trying to catch the rear end but the left rear wheel got on the grass on the narrow road. So the car swung around about 90 degrees, I shot across the road and off to the right at about 120 kph (75 mph). I have thought about applying the handbrake to hold the car on the road, but there was no time.
The meadow I hit was about 1.5 meters below the road. The airbags came out just when I had put my hands on my shoulders (so that the steering wheel wouldn't break my arms). Two meters after the point where I first hit the ground there was a trench perpendicular to the road (and therefore in line with the car) which threw me into the air again. With my eyes closed I could feel the car hurtling around and afterwards it spun at least 360 degrees when it came to a halt after about 50 meters, facing the road again.
The side impact killed both axles and the wheels on the left side. As the nose dipped a bit during the fall, there is considerable damage at the front, too (but the engine is still running). Both door windows went to pieces and the windscreen cracked. The chassis is most likely bent as well.
Fortunately there were no trees in sight and even the trench didn't make my CSi roll over. I emerged completely unhurt (except two minor bruises on my left arm).
Strangely, I wasn't in shock at all. Maybe because I knew what happened, what was to do, and what was about to happen when all was too late. I wasn't even scared... although the uncommon violent oversteer which I experienced quite unexpectedly.

Well, so much for that. The two years of 850CSi have been a great time. And if I'm ever to crash again, I hope it will be in an 8 series ;-) I don't want to imagine what any lesser car would have physics allowed to do to me.

So I'm without an 8 series for the moment. The CSi is not salvageable. At least I don't think so. And if, I couldn't trust the car any more somehow.

However, with the experience of having driven an 8 series for 25000 miles still in mind, I think I will be able to endure the time without one. My goal is now to find an Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe.
I hope there's one in red. I liked the color of my CSi so much...

So in the future there won't be many updates concerning photos and videos for apparent reasons.

...Mike
