Recently perchased a 850i. (194000km) Ran it out on the highway last weekend totaling about 1500km. In total I have put about 3000km on it since I took ownership. I have been monitoring the oil level on a regular basis and have as of late I recored a drop in the oil level. My service records indicate that I am due for an oil change in 2000 km. I am told that BMW's are typical to oil consumption in comparison to other makes. What kind of oil consupmtion is acceptable? I know there is an element of how one drives and oils used but general speaking if an 850 is drivin conservatively what consumption is to be expected.

Additonaly, I have noted an oil leak that is enought to leave spots on my garage floor. The leak appears approximately where the cabin starts. Burning oil is noticable upon shut down. Must be dripping on the exhaust or manifold. Have not had a chance to hoist the vehicle up.

Similar to others on this board I purchased from a dealer that did not disclose all the faults. (why would they, it just hits the bottom line.) I did purchase the vehicle for a price that lends itself for a repair budget.

I hope to do as much work as I can, part of this purchase was for the hobby of doing so. I am excited with the knowledge that exists on this board. Can anybody start me with a location of a parts manual online or a place to purcahse a CD? The manuals that come with this vehicle really discourage the garage mechanic.

Thanks in advance

Robert
