Check the archives. The culprit could be one of a few things, but the cause of this on my car was warped rotors and some worn bushings.

My mechanic says that this condition is probably not dangerous, just very annoying.

Don't worry too much, but definitely get it checked out.

Good Luck!
Richard

I experience extreme vibrations at 50 mph on 840ci, when I step on the brake pedal, it is worse. The whole car shakes, even the steering wheel. I'm wondering if any of you guys had the same problem.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Check these things in this order:
1. Upper thrust arm rubber bushings for cracks
2. Lower control arm and upper thrust arm ball joints for excessive play, torn rubber boots.
3. Warped brake rotors.

I'd be willing to say 80% chance your upper thrust arms are shot. When that rubber bushing cracks due to dry rot, you'll get that vibration everytime. This condition often causes shimmy during braking too, and doesn't always indicate warped rotors.
The only way to be sure where to start replacing parts, is to get up under the car and have a look.

Neal
