I just finished changing my oil. I'm away from home for two weeks playing soldier in Washington DC with the Air Force (Reserve), and got to use the lift at the base auto hobby shop. $5 for 1/2 hour -- what a deal. This is also the first time I have had the opportunity to get under the car comfortably, so I used the time to check out the suspension, exhaust, etc. Man, I gotta talk the wife into letting me buy a lift for our garage. Being able to stand up under the car, and really yank on suspension parts (as opposed to laying 8 inces away from them, and worrying that the car will fall off the jack stands!) is great. I may have to do this every time I come to the base, just to keep a better eye on things.

Everything looked good, with one exception - the drivers side rear muffler is starting to rust through at the weld joint where the pipe enters the body of the muffler. I need to keep an eye on this; it has not rusted through yet, but it's only a matter of time. I guess those Supersprints are looming closer in my future than I thought.

On the bragging note - boy, did the car spark interest in the gearheads who hang out at the auto hobby shop (blush blush). I had about four or five guys come ogle the engine when I was done, with many of the usual comments ("didn't know they made a V12"; "is this an M3"; "this is a '93?!!", etc.) It was gratifying to see the interest from guys who themselves appreciate automotive finery. There was a cherry Plymouth 'Cuda 383 in the next bay over, and another fellow who had replaced the stock engine in his '57 Chevy (after an engine fire) with one from a '99 Corvette LS-1. I'm still waiting for the 'chick-magnet' effect to kick in, but 'gearhead magnet' is certainly appropriate.

Meanwhile, while I'm down here in DC, back at home my luggage box arrived from Jurgen in Germany. Jurgen managed to find a used one that looked (from the pictures he sent) to be virtually new, and at half the price. Can't wait to get home and play with it - guess I'm all ready to hit the road for vacation in July.
