I also live in Fl.(Sarasota) and just sold my 740 to get 96 840ci. Love the car, and get looks everytime i'm out. This is a money town and there are M-B and BMW's everywhere, but the 8 series is
about more than that.It's an enthusiast's car! Kind of like seeing two Corvettes -a new one, and a 67 big block. Now, take the 67 Vette,give it to BMW, let them refine it and understate it and make it 30 years newer. Sounds like an 840 to me.
Now if i can just find a CSI front spoiler...

some people actually asked me, why I'm not selling this aging old beast and buying a fresh new BMW ? I found it very annoying and I told him, that BMW hasn't built a better looking vehicle yet ! A few neighbor has asked me if it was a KIT-CAR ? or is it a european odd-ball BMW ? or is it an old 6 series with a body kit ?
I got a few younger kids and they all love my car, and I gave them a free ride a few weeks ago. My neighbors daughter, her boyfriend and his friend was in a car. We accelerated up to 125mph and did a few run, later I let them drive a car. Even she was amazed about how easy is to drive it ! They love my car and they know it is a good car, but the amazing affect you guys talking about didn't happen here.
Once in every 3-4 months one or two people actually know what kind of a car is it, and they ask me about it, but most people say : It is an odd-ball, a black-sheep, etc. I tell them that's why I love it ! ps.: maybe my car doesn't look as good as yours ?
