Here's a quick answer off the top of my head.

I've been to Beverly hills BMW which as your would believe has perhaps the most 8 series. However, they are expensive and not the top recommendation. They have a high turnover rate, and have gone through several management changes over the years. I'd stay away from using them for service, but to check over an possible 850 to purchase they might make sense

I also have been to Center BMW... inept.

I recommend several good independent shops with experienced mechanics and integrity. There are only have 2 companies out of many.... that I feel comfortable... and I am a stickler for detail.

I have a 91 850 and found "Eli's Auto Body" to be reputable and fair. He's near the Beverly center in Los Angeles on third near La Cienega. They have a good reputation, and have integrity. Their ph. number is 310 652-1375. If you wish you can tell them I recommended them.

He has several or more customers that drive in from Orange county just to get serviced. That may tell you a bit about the loyalty they have with some of their customers.

I found them to be by far the best touch up or paint shop for BMW's and I found them initially, because they were the "only" paint shop, that was certified by BMW to paint within "factory tolerance" or better. I have Cosmos black (graphite color), which since 91 has had approximately 12-15 different color variations.

Nobody is better at paint than them.

They offer a guarantee on their paint. I have used them several times. They are knowledgeable in dealing with Insurance companies and know "how shady" some of the dealerships can be. They have been in Business for over 20 yrs (I think) and have a great following of loyal customers.

That is why they are independant BMW garage. I trust them.

Since your in Orange county, for Tune-ups and other mechanical work you should consider BMW Masters 714 556 4269 in costa mesa, CA. They "may" be called Bullet Performance Engineering and had a name change try the ph. number. They had a web-site. I have only used them once, but was very happy.

On a major tune-up at approx 30,000 miles they charged about half of what Beverly Hills BMW would have, saving me about $200-400! The car ran great after their work, and still does at 45,000 miles. They were great. I plan to go back to them for my next tune-up.

Let me know how you fare with them.

Best of Luck,

Brent Wolfberg

Hi everyone,

I was wondering, does anybody know a good BMW mechanic who's familiar with the 8-series in the Los Angeles (CA) area? (I actually live in Orange County but I don't mind the drive) I saw 2 1991 850i for sale that I am interested in and would like an experienced 8-series mechanic to check it out.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

ps: I didn't find one in htp://www.bmwe31.com/Maintenance.htm :-(
