Thanks for the input David, I guess when you put it that way it makes sense, I guess I just had higher expectations, thats what I get for bench racing all these years! ;-) And yes I could buy an other 850 for the upgrade but I feel inclined to do it as this is the 1st "toy" car I've ever had in my life. I was told $60,000 Canadian or just around $26,700 U.S. I need an SUV of some sort before I do this job so I'm not quite ready to ship it off. So are you up in Washington? I've not met any of my fellow 850 and 40 owners yet so it would be great to have a get to gether here in the North West. What do ya think? Thanks again for the info. it helps answer some questions I've long harbored about H.P. that and watching all those car shows on TNN!

Jim ;-)

The JC chips improved the PEAK rear wheel HP on a 850i 6-spd by 17 HP, probably about 21 HP at the flywheel. The claims of a 40 HP gain are only for certain RPM points, still a valid gain, but can be somewhat misleading. The chips will make the car will feel like 40 HP stronger when you are on the boil keeping the RPM up against the limiter because the stock motor falls off at higher RPM. Short-shifting the stock motor would narrow the gap - but it isn't as much fun. That's what a truck is for :-)

Others have posted dyno results from K&N's that showed a slight loss or essentially no difference and the only claims I've seen for different exhaust's had only a slight gain (about 5 HP for Dinan) over stock. The plugs won't make much of a difference.

So 296 stock, +21 for chips, -1 for K&N, +5 for Remus puts you at 321 (Math is easy when you know the answer :-).

So what percent of the national debt are they quoting you for this set-up? Probably near the cost of buying a second 850 (another route to having 600+ HP :-) Don't forget to include in your budget the cost of giving other 8 series fans within a 200 mile radius a ride (hey that includes me!)
