Good advice for the DIYer.
Just one caveat - getting the E31 into the air and onto jackstands can be dangerous. Unless you're prepared, you're either gonna damage the car, or yourself. You've gotta have a pair of high-quality, stable jackstands and the lifting tool from Steve D'Gerolamo at the Ultimate Garage. It's expensive, but worth every penny. You'll also need a floor jack, and a couple of hockey pucks (you'll see when you try to lift the car!).
Also, I strongly suggest inspecting your jackplates to make sure they haven't fallen out. You can't rest the car onto a jackstand safely without them.
Let's be safe out there. Having a two-ton E31 hovering over you while you're on your back can be very intimidating. Any mistake here can be fatal.
