Hello everyone,

I took my car to a different mechanic, because my other one was becoming shady and everytime he fixed something, a major problem would happen shortly afterwards. He tried to charge me an outrageous price to bolt on my cat converter (30 minute job if I did it myself). After that, my car is running like shit (thats where the engine part came into play). He claimed to have fixed the problem and said the car was fine. Long story short tried to charge me $600. I refused to pay him anything because he has already taken a good chunk of change from be and blatantly tried to rip me off. Then he told me that he would take care of my engine problems for about $3500. At that point I exploded and it turned a bit physical, he pointed his finger in my face(valued customer)and made a couple of insulting remarks, I got mad and picked him up and threw him against the wall. His other mechanic came running in, but saw the anger in my face and knew I was about to break his neck. Third mechanic came with a bat, thats when I felt I I should leave. I am not a violent person and try to avoid confrontations, but I was mad and felt this mechanic took advantage of me. I proceeded to call my best friend who I workout with (6-4 260 lbs 7% bf). When showed up we went back there (dont ask why) but the manager appologized and said I did not owe him anything. He said he would love to fix my car at a discounted rate, I laughed at him and left. Anyway I found a new mechanic that works at the BMW dealership in town. He is fixing my car at his house as a side job, started work on my car this morning. When I checked with him at about 2:30 he already had most of my engine out. The problem was that I needed a new passengers side head gasket. Also he noticed a small leak from my power steering pump hose, the ac filters also had to be changed. The good news was that he says the internal parts in my car seem to be in good condition. He also stated he was going to take my passenger side head unit to a machine shop to make sure there was no crack in it. My question is what is a fair price to pay to see if it is cracked or not and what does the test consist of. Also a fair price to repair the right head gasket?

Regards,
Danny C.
