I am going on the tenth year with my 91 Laguna Green 6 speed and the heater control panel gave way and was leaning into the dash.
This evening was the time to fix it.
1) suspend a work light through the sunroof.
2) remove the shift boot by pulling the edge of the boot at the center of the sides toward the center. There are two plastic clips on each side that disengage.
3) Pull up on the shift knob and the entire assembly comes up and is now free.
3A) Lexol the boot and set aside until you are ready to install and then buff with a soft cloth.
4) I used the boot as a recepticle for three screws that hold the fascia plate into the console.
5) Take a 1/8" hex (allen) wrench and undo the radio mounting screws by lifting up the flap on each end of the radio.
6) Slide the radio out. Make sure that you know your radio code!!!!!!
7) Disconnect the antenna.
8) Disconnect the wires and antenna connector. Take a large flat screw driver and pry up the lock on the cables from the top. Do a small amount on each side unitl it is completly up. Remove cable socket. During this operation the radio will beep like a stuck @#$%#$%^. Ignore! Just the anti theft warning device.
9) Remove the OBC and unhook the cable on the back by lifting up on the lock and then pulling the connector out of the OBC.
10) Remove the two fascia plugs at the very top underside of the fascia.
11) Unscrew the two screws and put them into the shift boot for safe keeping.
12) Unscrew the screw holding the bottom of the fascia to the console. Place the screw into the shift boot.
12) slip the TOP of the fascia with the heater control attached out first and then the bottom end.
13) disconnect the heater control by lifting up on the locking bracket and remove the cable.
14) Push any switches that are in the fascia out of the fascia from the bottom.
15) Disconnect the wires. Very obvious how the connect and disconnect.
15) The heater control unit is connected to the fascia with four screws that are fastened into 4 platic "tibes" molded into the fascia. All four had broken. Luckily the broken parts were still on the screws.
16) Utilizing some super glue that I had bought at a model shop I removed the screws one at a time and glued the broken piece back onto the fascia.
17) I utilized a hair dryer to set the super glue.
18) Reinstall is just the reverse.
19) However as I was reinstalling one of the tubes failed. I took the unit out and reglued and then used 200MPH duct tape and also taped the unit to the back of the fascia.
20) Reverse installation went well.
21) Project was completed within 30 min.
