Hey guys and gals... been busy with the 37 Olds and a pool... projects left and right... the theme for 2001.
2002 I'm sleeping.
Anyway, I finally got pics of the "floating dual rotor" Brembo kit for our 8s. There are two Brembo kits available, a standard slotted / drilled kit with larger calipers, and this floating dual rotor setup... very thick... I'll have to take a pic when the wheel is off next time. I shot this in the evening, so I had to brighten it to see inside, sorry about that.
The first kit is about $1800, the second kit that I installed because I'm clinically insane is $2800. Did stainless lines in the rear as well, with OEM drilled Brembo rotors in the rear (they don't make brake kits for the rear, just OEM Brembo rotor replacements with stock calipers.)
The front is night and day, and with all the power in my car, I suddenly felt the need to brake QUICKER than ever... and I do now. A lot of money, but a big difference.
The other reason I did the dual / floating rotor setup was because I've been through more than a few warped rotors... and Brembo admitted themselves that the $1800 kit would probably suffer the same warping eventually because its a single setup, almost the same size as stock. I don't know how accurate that is, but nevertheless they basically said this floating rotor setup will never suffer that fate... we'll see.
And as a side note, I finally took pics of my now cosmoline free engine, having used the K3,4, or 5 stripper.... mine was actually called K-X stripper, and worked great. So, now the NOS setup, tower brace and all the other goodies aren't sitting next to a cosmoline ridden engine... its all clean now. Really, the only thing left for me to do is paint the car... its fine now, but its getting time.
Still no NOS problems, but I haven't been driving as much recently... lots of victims though, and I promise you they're going home scratching their heads thinking "I never knew an 850 was THAT fast".
Classic short story: I don't reveal I have NOS, of course, but one time I had to. Cocky punk in his 20s came up and in a Mustang revvvving. He kept it up until I looked over. I usually don't even waste my time with Mustangs any more... its like racing a bug. Funny thing was that he blew his purge valve and NOS shot up! @$@#% had NOS too and was trying to intimidate me, laughing and revving, getting ready for the green light! But hey, which is better? A 5.0 with a single NOS setup shot of maybe 75 to 100hp, or an 5.0 V12 with TWO 100hp nozzles? I've been testing a bit larger nozzles for quick runs, lucky to have those in. So, for the first time, I let someone know beforehand I was packing too... what fun! His smile turned to a nice comforting look of concern. He really flew, but again, the Dragon pulled quite well. Its still batting 1000, although that noise in the driveshaft area is getting a little louder, slowly but surely... :(
Hope everyone had a good 4th!
