Many people are asking about cleaning up the engine and getting rid of the cosmoline. I asked way back when too, and many of the main-stays on the board helped me... so, to save them some retyping, here's the quick scoop:
-------------------------------------------------
First, Home depot, look for epoxy / paint stripper... I found "K-stripper X" in my area, although I've heard it called K5,4, and 3 by different people... mine just said K Stripper X. I think any decent stripper that also removes epoxy would work. Careful with it, use gloves, dab a little on a spot / area, let it sit a few minutes, scrub off with metal brush or the longer way, many a toothbrush as they dissolve away.
Slow process, but not as bad as any other option... took me about 2 hours. Remove valve cover only, do NOT let the stripper get on any plastic or rubber part... apply it where you have cosmoline on metal that you no longer want. Rinse repeatedly after each section.... watch for splashing on your paint... nasty stuff, so use rags / towels to protect areas (fender, headlights, etc).
My job sped up when I used a wire metal detailing toothbrush (I got it from Gariot's garage a long time ago)... thing worked great. Side note: I tried the Zymol cosmoline remover "Strik" or something along those lines... it didn't do jack on my 10 year old baked cosmoline.. but the stripper did.
