Factory alarm ? (archive)

I have an operation ques. re: my factory alarm on my 94 CSi. The key fob that locks and activates the alarm works fine, however, I was told that if the key fob batteries run out I can simply use the key to unlock and disarm the alarm. But, when I try this, the door unlocks...but the alarm goes off! And the only way to stop it is via the key fob. So, I've always been sure to have the spare nearby. Is this normal? Or is the alarm supposed to disarm? Thanx guys....
