But the tie rod adjustment may sometimes be the wrong solution. There may be some other problem that causes the car to go to the left or right. Compensating with the tie rods can make the condition worse.
If the wheel is off center then the reason would often be that one wheel has had a hit and then there may be more things than the tie rods that has been "defect". Feels better to check all the adjustments.
Its very easy to center the steering wheel, even for non-technical people. All you have to do is adjust the tie rods an equal amount on both sides. You lengthen one side and shorten the other. The direction to turn them depends on which way the steering wheel needs to go - clockwise or counter clockwise. This procedure will not affect any of the front suspension settings as long as you adjust the tie rods an equal amount on each side.
