When I upgraded I had two choices. One was to buy a cheeper system and only replace the mid-speakers and tweeters. This would be the easiest upgrade. But the one that I chose was mid-speakers and tweeters and also to add filters which includes cutting some wires but result in better sound.

I use my factory BMW Bavarian RDS radio/cassette player with no extra amplifier.
If adding a subwoofer also I guess you wouldn't need an extra amp unless you wan't lots of bass.

About the CD magazine for your 6-changer I'm not sure but the BMW changer I saw once looked exactly like the Pioneer 6-cd changer I had. But none had a sliding door. They had a button which opened a door which swung down.
But still - maybe the Pioneer magazines will work.

Guys,

I've been considering doing something similar with my 1995 840. The audio system is not very impressive for a car of this type. I want to keep the factory head unit and 6 disc BMW changer in the trunk.

Any suggestions on an upgrade plan? Has anybody had a particularly good experience with speaker upgrades and/or adding an amp to the factory head unit?

Finally, I'm having a heck of a time finding a CD magazine for the changer. Even the dealer can't find it. Again, it reads "Type A" on the sliding door of the changer. Anybody know what magazine I need?

Thanks,

K/
