Mine are dim too. I bought $85 PIAA light bulbs, 100+ watts ( I forget exactly, but as high as they go), but very very little change. They will blister the back of your brain if you look directly into them, but the road illumination is still poor. The standard high beams are awesome. I hear that the low beam cans just need to be replaced with new ones. That is to be my next project, unless I hear otherwise.
: I searched the Archives since I was SURE I'd seen posts on this subject, but...
: My Low Beam Headlights on my '88 735i are HORRIBLE!! They are DIM and appear much "warmer" (less white) than they should.
: I removed, disassembled the low beam assemblies as much as possible, cleaning the lens and bulb (no fingerprints of course), and reassembled them. I also replaced all of the adjusting hardware ($50) as the screws were corroded and the nylon plastic pieces VERY brittle and broke upon removal (chintzy engineering IMHO).
: No change (they weren't all that dirty).
: Is there a solution?
: If I could build a base to fit the headlight adjusters that would mount standard sealed beam halogen 5 1/4" headlights I would in a minute as the H/L on my other Bimmers (e23/e24/e28) are MUCH superior.
: The High Beams are great, BTW.
: HELP-they are DANGEROUS!!
