My 88 735iL does not have any sensor wiring at the reservoir. But I seem to recall an alarm similar to yours. It appeared to originate at the Power steering smart box mounted on the pump. Apparently, the brain box senses low or erratic pressure on the output side of the pump. It then interprets it as air in the line. I believe the same logic alarms the self-leveling suspension back at the accumulators.

Make sure you have bled the system well. I took a quick run through Bentley schematics but couldn't find anything.

: I need to find out where the hydraulic fluid level sensor is on my 1989 750? Is it that float that's in the resivior? my POW STEER FLUID light is on and the resivior is full.
