I used and older classic alpine (can't remember the model right now) that has a rotary knob, a cassette and a CD changer. Sent it to California to have the entire matrix display changed to BMW red/orange (for about $100). Changed the tape cover and used the factory one with the roundel symbol. It looks so factory and works like a charm.
