Transmission program switch problem (archive)

Greetings!

My transmission program switch will not allow me to go into "M" mode. I am able to go into "S" and, of course, "E", but cannot access "M". In addition, the switch feels quite stiff, and even sticky when going into "S"(as though something was spilled on it by the previous owner). The switch can be moved to the "M" position with difficulty due to the stickiness, but the dash will still indicate the car is in "E". Any suggestions?
