There are a LOT of tiny parts and a couple of springs that will jump when you take it apart.

I did this:

removed from car.
took into kitchen (with white linoleum)
took apart. sprints flew.
Washed with lightly soapy water and toothbrush the small parts.
Ran under VERY HOT water, the large parts.
dried with hair dryer.
applied some sort of oil/lubricant. It may have been corn oil? to non metal parts.
replaced.
worked for 8 months now perfectly (until the next coke of coffee spills out of that damn $26 piece of crap bmw cup holder)
