Let me first say that I am no expert in this matter. With that said, here is my oppinion. Most likely, BMW did not 'darken' the wood trim. I would guess that the 'light' wood you have seen is simply faded due to prolonged sun exposure. Also, BMW did use different species of wood which may have a darker or lighter stained appearance (I know BMW offers different species). The most common wood veneer is African Bubinga (sp?).

Any wood at the ashtray and/or shift knob is probably aftermarket which was added by the Owner. Chrome interior door handles?...not to my knowledge.

LSD was a factory option. Some have them, some don't.

No idea about the OBC. Gut feeling is that they are all the same on the E32's. Radio's changed often from year to year. Biggest change from 88 is the addition of CD changer ready beginning in 89 I believe. I believe in 90 the fade control moved to the radio. Etc, etc, etc.

I'm interested in perhaps a 1990-1992 735i, so I've gathered information about 735's and 750's from similar years. My questions are, at what year did they darken the trim? I noticed a 1988 735 has a very light color, however a picture of a '91 750 showed a much darker color. Did 735's ever get chrome inside door handles, like the 750's? Did 735's ever get wood ashtray drawers and wood around the shift knob? Anyone ever noticed differences in the radio and OBC from 1998 to 1994 and maybe tried to update? A little off topic, but what type of differential (ratio? open/LSD?) is found in a 735i? Any information is appreciated.

Thanks, Patrick
