If you want the SAME ride, your only option is to repair the LAD (self-leveling) suspension. The horror stories of exorbinant costs are pretty much unfounded now-a-days. I believe new shock units can be purchased for about $265.00/ea. and the installation costs are identical to conventional spring/shock assemblies. The NEW conventional wisdom seems to be to repair the LAD systems.

I am thinking about converting the self-leveling suspention on my 1989 750IL I am thinking about putting Bilstein shocks but I can't figure out what sprins to put with them. I want to keep the ride the same. Anyone have any suggestions? I have heard that converting the suspention makes the car ride worse is this true? I don't drive the car on trips or anything I mostly drive it to and from work and school.
