It's fixed. I took the switch appart; switch was clean, nothing had been spilled. The switch internally has two switches normally open. The two switches are held open by a spring under each switch pushing the switch up. One of the spings has come lose from underneath causing one of the switches to stay down (closed) triggering the "M" mode as soon as the vehicle was started.

Thanks to all who replyed.

Clean your switch. It's got coke or coffee stuck in it. Set it to "E" mode, and unplug it quickly. will remain in "E" mode from then on.

Btw. The sunroof switch is the same one. I might have a spare switch if you're not daring.

btw.
clean the switch with hot water, then oil with a non-plastic eating (mineral?) oil.

Do it on the white kitchen linoleum. The springs will JUMP when you take it apart.
