I believe I am getting the same thing on my 1988 735i. The brake indicator light will flash briefly and the pedal will feel very hard for a split second or so. From reading other posts I've concluded that the brake accumulator ("Bomb") is going bad, a common problem with my vintage and model vehicle. I intend to replace it as soon as the part comes (about $60 for the part). You might see if this solution may apply to your car too.

Good luck
