If its the one with one large nut, put the wrench on it and rap the end of the wrench handle with a rubber hammer. It should be enough to loosen it. It should not be on very tight. Like SJ says, its reverse threads.

I beg anyone in the LA/Orange county area! Does anyone have the tool needed to hold the water pump pully in place to remove the fan clutch. I am stuck at this point and need my car for work monday.
