Sounds like the bearings in the a/c squirrel cage fan are going bad, allowing it to hit the side. It will eventually make noise all the time. I replaced two in my 735. Every 5 or 6 years or so? On the other hand, since you were working near it, you may have pushed the side of the housing a bit so now it rubs. My guess is the bearings, but maybe not. Good luck.

Greetings

I just completed some work on my 1988 735i after making a mess of a couple of things. First, I broke off the lever that releases the OBC, requiring me to remove trim and pull the radio/OBC housing out far enought to access the top of the OBC and work it out of its plug. As part of the work to get at the OBC I removed the Heating/AC console but broke the clip that holds the left side in. Both of these mishaps will work out fine. The plug alone should hold the OBC and the wiring and right hand clip should hold the console well enough. The newest problem after all of this is that I now get a ticking sound like a fan blade starting up and hitting something. The sound happens when starting the blower and setting it at its slowest speed. It is not very loud unless I turn to the right, at which time it is noticably louder. The sound will go away when I turn the blower speed above minimum.

Any ideas???

Thanks
