Door lock actuators? (archive)

My locks went out on me the other day on my 94 740. I thought at first that it was just a lock out of sync, but I couldn't get it back in sync and the doors went all wacky on me. I would lock the drivers door and all the locks would lock but I couln't get them to unlock again I had to use the emergency door handle thingie on the passenger side. I then found out that I could lock and unlock them all from the trunk which worked fine. But I refused to have to do this all the time so I took it to the dealer. The dealer couln't figure it out at all and said that they think that the actuators are all burnt out now. And now none of the locks work. I had to tear apart all the doors and rig them so I could at least do it manually. The dealer said that to replace the actuators would caost $1700. Personally I think this is a little ridiculous. I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before? Does it sound like a likely thing to happen on a 1994? And if I do have to get new actuators is there someplace that sells them for less?

Thanks for any help you can give me,
D Mack
