Aftermarket CD changers (long) (archive)

hey guys I have a question. My '90 735i is prewired as we know. The $tealer wants like 700 for a new BMW cd changer which I know is just a rebadged Pionner CDX-MXX unit. After looking long and hard I have come to a fork in the road. I could easily purchase a Pioneer CDX-M30 and that would be controlled by my stock Pioneer head unit, OR I could go the FM way. This would allow me to basicaly use any changer I want. The only thing stopping me from getting the CDX-M30 is its incompatibility with other cars. Although I plan on keeping my 7 for at least another year or so (only 115k on the clock) I could get a different car later and then the Pioneer would be useless to me.

so basically, my question is: CDX-M30 or FM based changer? Opinions welcome.
