I would go with the CDX-M30. The FM modulator units do not sound as good as direct wired CD Changers. You will always have the FM noise in the background and the signal is not digital. I can immediately tell the difference between FM changers and real, digitally connected units.

I may be mistaken, but I also think the M30 can be hooked up via FM modulator (sold separately) if you wish to take it to another vehicle. Personally, you can pick the M30 up for a measley $200 and if you plan on selling the car, you can surely get the $200 back on resale. Short money for good sound. The only option my E32 didn't have was a changer and it was the first thing I asked the dealer to install during negotiations. Keep your bimmer stock and get a compatable head unit changer.
