This happened on my unit. i have the parts book from Pioneer for unit. The parts are available. The unit is tricky to get apart. You need to make notes and diagrams. I posted the fix on the 7 series digest. Go to www.bmwseven.com and do a search. My posts should come up. If you need the part number from the book let me know.
I fixed the unit over a year ago, use it every day and no troubles since. BTW the dealer will want a minimum of $200 to diagnose and fix a $6 plastic part.

I have a stock CD changer in the trunk of my 1989 750 and it is missing the magazine (holds the six cds). Thanks to this group I have identified it as a Pioneer unit but the Pioneer magazine I tried did not work properly. I could load it in the changer and it would start to index disks (seemed to check each slot of the magazine). but after completing this indexing the head unit displays an err message.
My question is can I use this Pioneer magazine, do I need a special BMW magazine, or is the changer broken?
Thanks for any help.
