Since the seat is not in its normal mounted position when you are often are manually turning the gear on one side of the seat to true it up, it is just hard to judge. At least now your seat works. Taking a half inch out of the cable be the way to go to insure the cable seats deep enough in the motor so it does not twist off with use.
If you can get your seat trued up with power you never have to disconnect any cables.

I bit the bullet and repaired my twisted seat. Thanks to this board I studied the different methods and since I am short on time, tools and parts, I went with the coat hanger. I thought I would share my first time experiences:

I raised the seat and put it back as far as possible. Reclined the seat fully as well. The motor is in the front under the knees slightly to the left. The right side of my seat was twisted toward the rear seat.

Getting the cable out of the motor was a bitch until I discovered that loosening the hex bolts around the metal plate around the cable made it come out. These bolts were a little tough to get at, but after unplugging the various connectors in my way, this was not a problem with a socket/screw driver handle.

I then cut about a little less than 1/2" of coat hanger and put it in the hole the cable came out of. I thought this was a bit long considering most people said to use 1/8", but I really thought it would be a bitch to get that small a piece into the cable shaft.

The most time consuming part of this project was getting the cable head back in the motor. It just took a while to get it to fit back in. I finally got it in about 1 hour and 15 minutes into the project.

Now for the results - the seat is ALMOST perfectly straight, but still a little twisted. I am probably the only one who can notice it, but am curious why it is not perfect. Overall I am happy for $0 out of pocket.

Just giving back here. Comments extremly welcome.
