1988 750iL - Rear Shock Availability/Pricing (archive)

Does anyone have information on what it costs to replace the rear shocks in an '88 750iL? I'm looking at one on a car lot. They say the rear shocks are no good. They also tell me that USED units from a wrecker are $1900 CDN (~$1200 US). Can anyone verify those kinds of prices? Can anyone tell me where I could get new shocks (dealer only?) and what they're worth?
Also - the front fibreglass valence is broken - does anyone know what those are worth?

I'd like to get a better idea of what the repairs will cost me before I make them an offer. The car has 60,000 miles on it. The closest BMW dealer is about 300 miles from where I live, so getting it checked by a BMW tech is out of the question.
