WOW, that's surprising! Are you sure your head unit is a Pioneer and not an Alpine. On the other hand maybe BMW's propietary changers are designed to work with either head unit...it would keep them from having two different changers for whatever head unit manufacturer they used at the time.

I'm using an Alpine CD-changer with my Pioneer head in my 94 740iL. I picked the changer up at a junk yard and really didn't think it would work but it does, and has been running perfectly for 6 months.
