Yesterday I dropped my recently acquired Islandic Green '90 735iL (151k mi) at the dealer for a couple recall updates that the previous owner neglected (radiator cap, brake switch and fuel line). The car was supposed to be ready by noon. At 12:15 I get a call from the service guy - my iL has been hit by a delivery truck.
The hit wiped out the right rear tailight and put a nasty approx. 18x10 dent in the right rear quarterpanel at tailight height. They have a bodyshop at the dealer that is supposed to fix it and repaint the entire quarterpanel, claiming that the color matching will be fine. From what I understand from the local CCA website, this is one of the more capable dealers in this area.
Has anyone had experience in getting this kind of repair done without repainting the whole car? Should I demand a repaint? The car has a few minor shopping cart dings and scratches, but the overall finish is in very good shape.
