This groaning could be your A/C compressor kicking in. Start the car with the A/C off, should make a difference. If the noise is A/C related then don't worry as it doesn't cause a problem

Could you share with us your experience about the cold start noise? My 91 750il "groans" for a second after start sometimes. Thanks,
