That part is fairly easy. But it requires getting under the right front of the car. All M60 and M62 blocks have casting numbers on the right side, directly alongside the 3rd cylinder, slightly above the coolant drain bolt.
These are the casting numbers to look for :
Nikasil M60B30 1 725 970 or 1 741 212 old
Nikasil M60B40 1 725 963 or 1 742 998 old
Alusil M60B30 1 745 871
Alusil M60B40 1 745 872
Alusil M62B44 1 745 873 NOTE, all M62 engines are Alusil.
This is the only way to determine which M60 you have, short of removing a cylinder head.
Hi there everyone. I hope I am not taking up too much board space . . . but does anyone have general tips about the 7-series? Right now I currently own a 1985 325e which I love to death. But right now I am about to upgrade to this beautiful 1993 Alpine White 740il. I already know about the M60 Sulfur problems, but do you guys have anything else major I should look at besides that and the self-leveling suspension? Are there any websites like bmwe30.net(for E30's) I could visit to give me more help? I appreciate any help and I will be scouring through the archives for about the next 2 weeks. Hopefully this car will be turn out to be a non-lemon. If so I will definitely post some pics and maybe make a webpage to fill the 7-series web-presence void. Thank in advance for any help.
