I believe in 89, you will need a Pioneer CDX-M30 (either BMW's or Pioneer's). If you go the Pioneer route, you will need an adapter to go from the 13 pin round connection to the 13 pin retangular connection on the Changer. Otherwise, the Pioneer is a plug and play for '89 model year head units. (Your head unit is probably a Pioneer HE83ZBM (or something like that).

I have an 89 735 whose radio has the prewired plug-in for the CD changer but I don't have the CD changer. Can you tell me the model number for your CD changer? Is it an Alpine unit? Thanks
